About Budlet Garden

Documenting the journey of a backyard garden in Houston, TX

My first experience growing anything worthwhile was a few herb pots sitting outside my apartment door. At each new apartment, I would set up a small container and plant something small that I bought while out grocery shopping.

In 2020, I finally moved to a small home and built a small, somewhat productive backyard garden. By that point, I fully caught the gardening bug. I set up grow shelves in my spare bedroom, I bought dozens of seeds, and I tried my hand at square-foot gardening. My space was small, and while it wasn’t harvesting buckets of veggies like I dreamed I would, I learned a lot about patience, pruning, and pest control.

When my husband Josh and I got married, we moved into our current house and my dream of having ample to space to grow a garden started to become a lot more achievable. I went from having a small space (pictured above) to a 1/3 acre lot, and the backyard was a complete blank canvas.

I built 3 raised beds early on, and moved all the containers to the patio slab. The past 4 years have been a slow journey in gardening and scaling up, often biting off more than I can chew! I have been slowly adding raised beds to the garden, and I have a dream of planting fruit trees, permanent landscaping, and designed zones to give the backyard a sense of beauty and peace.

The garden is still very much a work in progress. In 2026, I decided to start more actively documenting the journey through a vlogging series published on YouTube. Follow along as I continue to grow, learn, and build my backyard dream garden below!
